Story Of Bo Diddley |
Now listen here to the story of Bo Diddley\nThe rock 'n roll scene in general\nBo Diddley was born Ellis McDaniels\nIn a place called McCoom\nIn Mississippi about 1926\nHe moved to Chicago about 1938\nWhere his name was eventually changed to Bo Diddley\nHe practised the guitar every day and sometimes into the night\n'till his papa’s hair began to turn white\nHis pa said «Son, listen here, I know»\n«You can stay but, uh, that guitar’s just got to go»\nSo he pulled his hat down over his eyes\nAnd headed on out for them western skies\nI think Bob Dylan said that\nHe hit New York City\nHe began to play the Apollo in Harlem\nGood scene there\nEverybody raved\nOne day, one night\nCame a Cadillac, four headlights\nCame a man with a big long fat cigar\nHe said «Come here son, I’m going to make you a star»\nBo Diddley said «Uh, what’s in it for me?»\nThe man said «Uh, shut your mouth son and play the guitar»\n«and you just wait and see»\nWell, Bo made it, he made it real big\nAnd so did the rest of the Rock 'n Roll scene along with him\nAnd a white guy called Johnny Otis took Bo Diddley’s rhythm\nAnd changed into hand jive\nAnd it went like this:\nIn a little old country town one day\nA little old country man begin to play\nHad two guitars and a beat-up saxophone\nWhen the drummer said ??? those cats begin to ???\nOh baby, oooo we oh oh\nOooo la la that rock 'n roll\nYou hear me, oooo we oh oh\nOooo la la that rock 'n roll\nThen the U.S. music scene, there was big changes made\nDue to circumstances beyond our control\nSuch as payola\nThe rock 'n roll scene died after two years of solid rock\nYou got discs like, uh:\nTake good care of my baby |
